Switching one 12m Fix for another with Eon Next

Hi,

My current Eon Next 12 month fix ends on 31 December 2025. As I'm within 50 days, I called them to switch to another 12m currently on offer which is slightly cheaper. They told me the switch would happen on 31 December 2025 rather than straight away. I questioned this and was then cut off. Does this seem right? If I switched from Eon to British Gas - let's say the switch occurred in 7 days - would I then have to wait till the current fix expired before I was with the new provider/tariff?

I remember Eon telling me last year that I could switch internally without an exit fee - say they released a cheaper tariff after three months. They are now saying it's not possible without paying an exit fee. Even with the same provider.

I did an internal switch yesterday from one fix to another, 9 days from the end of the 50 day period. I switched using the online account dashboard's renew tariff option and my confirmation e-mail showed that my new tariff would start on 29 November. Whereas normally I would see a switch tariff option it is not there for the moment.

I would expect the ability to view all the applicable switchable tariffs to start again from that date (without exit fees). I phoned and spoke to an Energy Specialist who confirmed my understanding. I'm sure if I decided to switch supplier in this interim period I could do so without exit fees but I would need to do it by a phone call.
