Has anyone got a laptop without a number pad to recommend?

Morning all

Thanks to the help on here a while ago I've managed to keep my little Stream going a bit longer (Wise Disk - what a revelation!) but am now on the hunt for a 'proper' laptop without a number pad, hopefully with a 15-16 inch screen.  It doesn't seem possible to use a search term to specify this and sometimes you have to go into each listing to see the keyboard which is making my eyes seriously doolally!!

I just wondered if anyone has anything similar they use that they can recommend.  It's just for general household stuff, no games, media or similar, so the cheaper end of the scale please.

Thanks

  • I'm sure there are exceptions but generally any laptop 14" or under - no numeric keypad, anything over will have.

The other thing that is often hard to determine is if the keyboard is backlit - particularly in the less pricey models.
  • What's the issue with a numberpad?

Personal preference really I suppose.  I learned to touch type over 50 years ago and it's never left me.  I never use the number pad as I touch type the numbers along the top as in a typewriter.  I have an old laptop with a number pad and it just gets in the way of my normal typing and is a waste of keyboard space.  I'm sure it's quicker if you need to type lots of numbers, or calculations etc but that's not something I do much of.

    So the hunt continues.....

95% of 15 - 16 inch laptop has number pad

16" laptop I knew without num pad is Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, which is an expensive gaming laptop.

You're going to struggle to find a laptop with a big screen but no number pad. Just ignore it, or use it for other functions.

Alternative option - get a USB keyboard without a numberpad and plug it into the 15/16/bigger screen laptop.
A bit of a clunky solution maybe, but if it works for your touch typing fingers then who cares if it's clunky.

This is my preferred method too with a mouse as well, I hate touchpads and find they are quirky and get in the way, plus you can get a better touch feel for touch typing.

I go one further - 14" laptop, USB keyboard and mouse plus a big screen. If I need to go walkabouts I can (just about) manage without the peripherals.
