Morning! It's sunny at least now and the frost is slowly disappearing. Waiting for my log delivery and stressing about the cars parked in the street in case they're in the way. Also got some wood to chop for kindling, and another pile I fetched in the spring to chop up into kindling length, then those to chop into kindling. Off to OHs mums tonight for tea, she's doing cottage pie, I'm doing sticky toffee pudding so sharing the load in operation. I'll be using my green bin to store the kindling, between the allotment and here I can use everything now, it all has a home somewhere so I won't be renewing my subscription, and they don't tend to fetch the bins back. If they do want it back, I'll just empty it again. It'll all be in bags anyway. OH has fallen and sprained his ankle so he's on crutches at the moment...could happen to anyone [ not really, we have the clumsy gene both of us] Hope he recovers quickly, he's only got a few days left to experience there. Stopped in a cs yesterday on the way to get my hair cut [ just to get change for a tip] and I saw a lovely throw for four pounds, bought it, got it home, it's pure wool, and sold by Westonbirt Arboretum shop, so I very much doubt it was that price there! proper bargain...and it's lovely and thick and warm...sorry, have to post a pic
Izzy, sorry, but can I have your snow? Your dog is funny, my cats decamp to the front of the log burner when it's on, then I have to tiptoe round them to fill it again. Ruby, happy birthday to your mum. Camelot, get out there! but gently....Gers, I reckon you're getting just as much excercise carrying them logs. I filled a couple of those bags with wood for my sister and they are not light and very unwieldy...TA, if it gets really cold, you can always pile the scarves up and sleep under them...{ I have a similar problem with throws...] remmie, that's exciting! hope they do show them! Rosy, I dread to think how many cookbooks I have...it's lovely to have a bit of nostalgia too, but once you're reading at a young age, it sort of carries on forever, the world of books is huge and the places they take you to, amazing..Right, off to chop wood, take care all, shout to the mia....

Morning all and thanks @Gers for today's start. No more snow here but there are still patches of it where the sun hasn't reached. Today is set to be dry and bright with a moderate breeze; taking in the chill factor, once again it will feel much colder with daytime temperatures in the minus figures. My central heating is taking a (temporary) hammering!
Just the usual jobs today but I shall brave the elements at some point to collect the documents I sent for printing. Shame there's nothing else around there that I can combine it with, but needs must. The print shop is on a row of what used to be small private houses (1930's?) converted into business units with flats above. Over the years the units have housed various businesses but the only ones I use nowadays are the print shop and the Post Office. The one that was my hairdressers is still empty but there are signs of workmen in there so I'll be interested to see what it's going to be. I'll finish off the last of the winter chunky veg soup when I get back and could do with making another batch, maybe spicy carrot & lentil this time. Tonight's tea is a cheese & onion crispbake with side salad.
@Ruby - Happy birthday to your DM.
@Gers - Love the Sled Zeppelin name for the gritter!
@remmie - There are quite a few dogs around here that could do with the Dogs Behaving Badly treatment, especially the two that live opposite me. I think one's a daxie and the other is a chihuahua; their owner often puts them outside in her front garden and they bark at anything and everything - and nothing in between! I hope your BD doesn't let you down!
@-taff - That throw is a real bargain at £4, love the colours. Sorry to hear your OH is on crutches; you're not on your own with the clumsy gene - I have a cousin who has it too.
Stay safe everyone, especially if you have snow/ice etc, and wrap up warm. I think the NE is in for a bad weather day. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Taff what a bargain love the colours6

Hi all.Late one from mehefinland today
First proper frost of the winter last night -the gritter was out at 9pm up and down our little road ( only because it is the only access to the SAR and Police helicopter base - it never came up here before they arrived!!).
My saga continues.... phone call this morning to cancel the appointment as someone had called in sick. They did have a slot at 1330 if I could make that !! My appointment was 13.50!! I declined as my transport had been arranged and I knew my friend had juggled things to be able to take me in. As it is a dilate the eye jobby I can't drive myself. Upshot is that I now have the next available which is 17th December!! Good job it isn't anything serious. I really don't see what difference 20 minutes would have made - I know I will be there a lot longer than that when I eventually get in to clinic.
So made good use of my freed up time and cleared out some of the china cupboard, binned an ancient VHS player and sorted out a load of old DVD's.
Just enjoying a little bit of sunshine, but I know we will suffer because of it tonight. Think my Dahlias have finally succumbed to the weather -they have been glorious all autumn.
Keep warm folks, hugs and spoons as always
Mehefin aka Derek9
