If you are saying that you left the service book and note with them before the service then you have a strong case that backs up your account of the unrecorded phone conversation.

Yes that is exactly what I did.  The note was missing when I got the service book back.
It has now been resolved, see my last post.

@snowy72 -  for future reference, when organising something like this over the 'phone, I always follow up with a confirmatory email with details of (1) work to be done (2) price and (3) to contact you in case extra work found.

If they don't reply and/or don't agree, don't use them...
