Car insurance

Beam from the AA quoted my wife for car insurance, price was great,
They then emailed to say the price is 145 pounds extra as I was on the policy and had a claim previously
My wife asked for me to be removed and the price did not change at all because they told her
The quote was based on myself being on the policy, she asked to cancel they said there are 3 fees involved
To cancel and it costs half a year of premiums, how can this be right ?
sounds very dodgy.

so at renewal did you inform them that you had a claim or was this something they found out by themselves (which is how i read it)markbenson116 said:Beam from the AA quoted my wife for car insurance, price was great,They then emailed to say the price is 145 pounds extra as I was on the policy and had a claim previouslyMy wife asked for me to be removed and the price did not change at all because they told herThe quote was based on myself being on the policy, she asked to cancel they said there are 3 fees involvedTo cancel and it costs half a year of premiums, how can this be right ?sounds very dodgy.

the insurance was agreed end of October then 2 days ago my wife had the email to say the price needs to be more due to my claim.0

But did they find out about the claim or did your wife tell them in advance and they mispriced the policy.
If they found out rather than you informing them you're lucky they haven't just cancelled the policy.1 -
when it asked for any claims for my wife she has none, it asked any additional drivers so she added myself, but there was no option to include details of my minor claim. Good job people are around to boot lick corporationsLightFlare said:

When you add a driver it does ask you about their claims historymarkbenson116 said:

They could have gone the other route and cancel the policy as fraud, which under CIDRA technically means they could have kept all the premiums. More importantly she would have had to tell all future insurers for all classes of insurance that she's had a policy cancelled for fraud which would be vastly more damaging financially than losing half a years permiums.0 -
I always add my wife as an additional driver on my policy, and vice-versa.markbenson116 said:

In the many years that we've done this (which includes at least once, possibly more, with The AA) we've always without fail been asked for details of the additional driver - occupation, driving history, claim history, endorsements etc.
The chances of any potential insurer not wanting to know these things, and to not ask the questions, seems vanishingly small to me.2 -
Which comparison site did you buy from? I'm fairly sure I've never seen one that doesn't include a question about an additional driver's accidents or claims, but I'm willing to be surprised.markbenson116 said:

(Beam apparently sell exclusively through comparison sites so I couldn't check on their website as it doesn't include a "give me a quote" option.)0 -

Pay the money and thank your lucky stars they haven't cancelled the policy. If they did you would be in a whole heap of pain.0
