Hmm. I would hope so, blood tests were taken and I just assumed that would be one of the things checked as drinking and peeing a lot are common symptoms.

I will add it to my list.  I think she has a vets appointment later this week.
  • Has your dog been checked for diabetes? Also some of the human medication for OAB can be used such as oxybutinin. As a retired GP I suspect far more people than you would think have cottoned on to this as the exact same thing from the vet costs hundreds of pounds.

If the dog knows when she need to go, would she possibly be willing to urinate on puppy pads or a large litter tray when she can't get out?
  • Hi Char

Vet medications really needs to be regulated.. its so much more expensive than the same compound in human at times.

We've tried puppy pads but cant seem to explain to her that they are ok to pee on.. if she is awake she knows to ask to go out, in fact we leave the door open as much as possible in daytime, have added a thick thermal curtain to try prevent frost bite to us.

Night time its a case of if she wakes up in time otherwise she doesnt make it to the door.. my husband has become skilled at getting up as she does but its tiring for him and his health.

I am wondering of a bit of confusion and doggy dementia is setting in.. she got out of bed the other day walked to the wrong door so we assumed she was going to her bowl turned round and puddled on the floor making eye contact.. strange.

We have found cutting her pain meds down has helped hugely.. it seems she was being dosed to her body weight not to the lower level needed to relieve symptoms.. this has made her a little more alert and on days she doesnt have any (and is still playful and comfortable) she is more continent .. but nights still need frequent trips.

Its a puzzle but she is such a lovely little dog and family we will carry on.
