Hi My son is a "drivers mate / white goods installer" self employed sub contractor
But we cannot find the option when trying to do car insurance quotes.
Any advice please on what to put?

Pick something that's close to what your son does (driver?) then phone the insurance company up that you fancy the look of, explain the situation to them, and let them make the decision.
