Me and OH are off to Riga in ten days time for 4 nights. We got such a good deal that two friends of ours have decided to join us so we are looking forward to going away.
Anyone else heading out there in the near future???
I know it is going to be pretty cold out there when we got and we have decided to take some ski trousers with us as we are just not used to the minus temperatures.
I have been looking at Trip Advisor and stuff and found lots of hints and tips so far but was wondering if there are any MSE style tips for Riga???

I went there last year there is quite a bit of poverty there, as I walked through the beautiful city I was pestered by beggars they also tend to hang around cash machines.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs
Since first using Martins I have saved thousands0 -
I was there a couple of years ago and didn't see any beggars so it must be a recent phenomenon.
Not sure what you've read on tripadvisor but do make the effort to go to the 'Art Deco' area. It's a bit out of town but worth it. The facades on the buildings, especially the restored ones, are really amazing. And it's free of course!0 -
make time for a day trip to Jurmala - it is on the coast. I think it took about an hour to get there - but the train was clean and ran on time and it cost next to nothing.Bern :j0

Thanks all so far folks. We havent really planned anything out as yet where we want to go and what we want to see. Our hotel is in the Old Town and apparently not too far from everywhere but we will be doing plenty of walking and stuff aswell (if only I could get that motivated when at home!!!)."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I forgot to say, go to the indoor market area too. The kids were fascinated by what you could buy (whole pig heads and ears for example).
And that's free too!0 -

Sounds just lovely!!! I don't think! But then the curiosity in me would probably make me go and have a look after reading that!
OH is a smoker and always on the lookout for cheap tobacco (brought back 1kg for £4 when we were in Poland - kept him going for months!). Any ideas where we would get some cheap tobacco when out there aswell?"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Lol - it's more interesting than stomach turning!
Sorry, can't help with the tobacco but I'm sure the receptionist at the hotel could probably help you.0
