Travel Insurance - airfare paid for by our daughter

Hi, our daughter and family live in California and just invited us to visit for 10 days in the New Year and they bought our airfares for us costing £1260.
Wonderful news! However, when I went to arrange our travel insurance (costing, at best, £1025) I was told that our flights would not be covered since we did not pay for them ourselves.
Seems strange. Had we known our daughter could simply have given us the money and we could have booked the flights ourselves and been able to be covered.
Any ideas?
Kind regards, Mike

Who told you that? It's almost certainly wrong.MikeFloutier said:Hi, our daughter and family live in California and just invited us to visit for 10 days in the New Year and they bought our airfares for us costing £1260.

Never seen a policy where it isnt the traveller thats protected irrespective who the payer is. We have had many posts on here over time from people who assumed it was the payer only that needed insurance and they are then annoyed when their party of 6 travel is cancelled and they only get 1/6th back because the other 5 were uninsured because they'd assumed as they'd paid for everyone that only they needed insurance1 -
Info was from chat with insurance company Avanti. Will persue with them later today0
