I think the lesson is to be careful in the title of your thread, even if feeling rightly personally aggrieved at the time, unless you want a string of posts either saying the story is pretty improbable, or you should have kept tabs where your money is.

I would still expect my post to come to 1 Bridge Street X town unless there was an identical house and road number in the new postcode? 

People get postcodes wrong all the time, but the post still arrives.

When my postcode was changed I still got post that was addressed to both old and new postcodes.  The problems started when the council decided a street with just house names wasn't the thing any more and issued us all with numbers.  After not very long at all post addressed with only the name stopped being delivered even though I had not removed the sign with the name.

Safe in the sense that the money is guaranteed by UK government bodies, the value won't collapse, the prize draws will be done fairly. 

Basic account security is still partly the account holder's responsibility, no less safe than a UK bank account or a safe full of cash. If you don't update your contact details or lose track of the key for decades, there's no investment provider that can guarantee the money.
