HMRC tax credit letter??

Hi folks
I’ve had a letter come through asking about a claim from 2012-2013. I believe everything is correct but I can’t help but feel they’re trying to catch me out with something. Just the date of the claim gets me suspicious but I believe all the info is correct and it states in the letter that they won’t ask for any potential overpayment to be repaid.
Is this something they usually do?
It states that if the info is correct, I don’t need to do anything but then states, if it’s incorrect and they don’t hear from me they will decide the annual review is correct and complete.
Anyone else experienced this?

A good start for any suspicious letter, email or call is to google the details and check the number against the official one you’ve googled.

In this case google tax credit help line, if the details are the same then call them and clarify why your getting this letter now.

I got a surprise tax rebate once, more years after the fact than I'd have expected anyone to be double checking - not thirteen, mind you, but yes, it's the sort of thing that can happen. The corollary of them being able to crack down on historic debts is that sometimes it goes the other way.

It seems to be a genuine letter. The contact information is correct.
I think what’s confusing me most, other than the timeframe is the fact it states they will not ask for any over payments from that period?
Everything looks as it should to memory but I can’t help but feel they are trying to catch us out with something.

If they are chasing you, Ignoring it wont make it go away.  Id say for peace of mind call them, find out what’s going on and if they are chasing you youve evidence to say not this time.
