ParkingEye PCN for overstaying retail car park

Hi there, I hope you are all well!
My girlfriend recently received a PCN from ParkingEye as she parked her car in a retail car park from 9pm - 11pm to go help her friend at home as she lived nearby (GF is a nurse).
Apparently the max stay in the car park is 1h30, and she has received a PCN for overstaying in this retail car park. Given the time was late, it was hard to see such a small sign.
I attached a photo of the sign, she had parked in the closest bay.
My first approach is to give a call to the retailer and try have this cancelled? Or shall I appeal?
Thank you.

Genuinely baffled. I don't understand. There is no need to look for a car park to park a car. Oh dear. There's no grounds to complain. What you describe sounds like abuse of the site; using it for free parking then walking off is not the purpose of retail car parks.
She was bound to get caught by ANPR.
Almost certainly, pretty much every street near her friend's home would have been free to park after 7pm or 8pm. All except 24/7 restrictions would have ended (even in London and big cities) and certainly all single yellow lines and most bays would have been free at that time of night, on street.
Always use side streets at night and on Sundays. Please tell your gf to stop using car parks at night because this was not the right place to leave a car and most streets would have been free by then.
I'm not saying to pay but I see no 'out' except to await a court claim next year.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I completely agree Coupon, I had this chat with her already hahaha, I just wanted to get some advice whether it’s worth appealing this or just paying the £40 and moving on. It was late at night so idk if I can complain on anything.Coupon-mad said:My girlfriend recently received a PCN from ParkingEye as she parked her car in a retail car park from 9pm - 11pm to go help her friend at home as she lived nearby (GF is a nurse).I am wondering why seek out a random retail car park at night?

If its correctly issued then any appeal will fail, an appeal should be considered if there are legal points that could succeed, but not fly parking on private property just because its convenient, sorry to say
The good news is that moving forward she wont do it again, plus she will be more aware of cameras and signage etc, waiting to trip people up and hit them I'm their purse2
