My father has a good state pension as worked for near 50 years before retirement and all NI paid for that time.My mother however didn't go back to work(part time) until in her late 40s so doesn't get full state pension as didn't pay enough years .Question is can my mother apply for marrige tax allowance as my father goes over the minimum tax threshold on his state pension while my mother is about £1800 under that amount 🤔

Providing neither is a higher rate taxpayer then they will be eligible.farmerden said:My father has a good state pension as worked for near 50 years before retirement and all NI paid for that time.My mother however didn't go back to work(part time) until in her late 40s so doesn't get full state pension as didn't pay enough years .Question is can my mother apply for marrige tax allowance as my father goes over the minimum tax threshold on his state pension while my mother is about £1800 under that amount 🤔
The financial benefit to them as a couple will depend on her taxable income (and types of taxable income).
The above assumes they aren't old enough to be eligible for Married Couple's Allowance.0
