Multicar Insurance Renewal - will not insure vehicle on next renewal - Advice please

Hi folks - don't know if anyone has had similar happen to them but I am somewhat confused.com!!

I have been insured with LV for over 6 years on a Multicar Policy which is due for renewal in Jan 26.

I have received a letter from them telling me that when my renewal is due, my T5 LWB will no longer be able to be insured by them - when questioned, they said that the Underwriters had informed them of this and they had no control over their decision.

I am obviously very annoyed about this but have been searching via the recommended sites on here.. Diamond, Elephant etc., yet to try Admiral as, when I have entered the details of the reg in the quote site, its not locating my vehicle and nor does it list it when I enter the details manually.....

I am hazarding a guess that its classed as a van and not a car but cannot understand why the change would come about, and does this mean I will no longer be able to add it to a multicar policy?

Thanks in advance :-)

Is it an N1 or M1?

Some insurers are a bit funny when it comes to vehicles available as M1 and N1 or N1 only.

Underwriters change their mind about stuff fairly regularly due to a range of reasons. A prior client used to allow vans to be insured on their car policies but then decided to launch a business set of products and as a consequence full vans (eg a Transit) could only be insured under the Van policy, but they still allowed small car based vans (eg Ford Fiesta Van) to be on a car policy as long as there was no business use.

Some people had vans due to hobbies etc rather than work and were forced to lapse their car policy and buy a van policy if they wanted to stay with us.

Elephant, Diamond and Admiral are all part of Admiral group, you'd generally expect them to have a similar position to each other.

Other insurers may be perfectly happy to have the vehicle on a car policy and thus a multi-car policy but if that remains cheaper than insuring them separately is a separate matter.

Insurers are free to decide what they are willing.to insure at renewal.

LV were taken over by Allianz and Allianz are offshoring much of their claims handling to India.

I would think you would be better moving your Insurance away from LV.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Having been on the inside at Allianz. I can tell you the claims handling will not be moved to india.
A lot of the background third party straight forward work is done there but anything with the hint of contention will be handled by UK staff
It is no different to any other insurance company.
It is not a reason to move away from LV.

Were you the Chief Claims Officer?

Realistically if you weren't then I doubt you can say with absolute certainty.

Just yesterday was talking to a potential new client about a project they are about to kick off involving offshoring  a lot of work to India, outside of the board there are currently 4 people in the business aware of the plan. I've been involved in many similar projects around M&A, outsourcing, backbook sales etc. In the early days it's often complex because I turn up as a new contractor and can't tell the person sitting next to me anything about what I'm doing. In a previous place the person I was sitting next to in the first couple of weeks was convinced there was a project going on for them to buy one of their competitors whereas I was on joint instruction and they were actually being bought by a different competitor .

Not speculating that it is going to be outsourced/offshored, just highlighting these things are complex and not widely known about within an organisation until a certain point. I'd done 9 months of work with one firm before we broadened the circle of who knew and even then they were only told that we were selling a large book of customers and weren't told that this was just an enabler to break up the group.

On the book its an N1.... stating it has 3 seats (double and single front only) when in reality its 2 single front and a double rear....

Appreciate the insight from other responders too - thank you

I had a similar issue with an old style defender.   Some insurers just don't like N1 on a personal vehicle and treat them as vans, and would only cover them on a commercial policy.
