New MOT/service before part exchanging car

So I'm looking to part exchange my current car, MOT and annual service run out in about 3 months time.

I know the webuyany derivatives say that if a car has less than 6 months MOT on it then the price will be affected, don't really want to go to the hassle of selling it privately having horrendous previous experiences so only feasible option left if part ex at a garage.

Will garages be precious about having less than 3 months MOT left or will they just quote the book price regardless?

I've read that getting a fresh MOT and service to then part ex a car to a garage is pointless as won't add any money onto the price but wanted opinions on that please?

There's a middle course, namely get a new MOT without a service.  But, only if you are sure it will pass!

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes was considering that....not sure how much of a red flag it is to garages when you are trying to part ex a car with next to no MOT left....if it was being sold privately than absolutely I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

The service is a bit of a nuisance as if the car hasn't been evidenced to have been serviced as per the manufacturers intervals and a fault ensues, than you can't claim back on their goodwill scheme which a lot of car dealers will also be aware of.

To get more helpful answers, it would be best to give more details. Age. Make/model Rough mileage.  Age. That sort of thing.  Rough value.

Yes fair comment, Ford Focus 1.0 litre 2017 50k value is about £4.5k

P/X my pervious car on the day MOT & Service were due. Garage had no issues with this at all. As they service & MOT when they sell the car.

Why waste money on something that you are not getting the benefit of.

Was wondering if garages found it a red flag with next to no MOT left and knocked down the part ex price accordingly?

The only book value a garage is going to be interested in is what they can sell it for.  And that assumes it's fully prepped.  So serviced, MOT'd, dents and scratches fixed, alloys refurbished and any problems sorted.  If you offer them a car with a short MOT that needs a service, they will take that into account when deciding what to offer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

One disadvantage of getting an MOT is that you can’t legally drive the car if it fails.

I did wonder whether I should spell out the details, but the point is that once it has failed you are pretty much committed to getting it fixed before selling it.
