I was told that this is a good time of year to buy soil, compost and wood chips, etc.
Has anyone seen any significant discounts either online or instore on these things. I am more interested in

top soil
ericaceous compost

I dont drive so its very difficult for me to go to stores to collect these 25/50L bags but im interested in seeing the prices they offer in store as they tend to be much cheaper than online prices

I popped into B&Q last week to buy a bag of general purpose potting compost at the request of our gardener. I don't buy it that often so don't know prices that well but was quite shocked that they seemed a lot higher than last year. £13 for 100 ltr bag or £7 for 50 ltr......ouch!!

to be honest that doesnt sound like a good deal to me . The thinking is that in winter the shops reduce the prices to get rid of this years remaining stock and also because there may not be so many people gardening at the moment.
  • Yes I agree.....they probably saw me coming but it's swings & roundabouts. This week a neighbour gave me 2.5 bags of the stuff in exchange for a bottle of wine so I'm probably showing a small profit 😃😃

Compost keeps so never seen a deal.
Also people planting pots and bulbs.

It's all so awful now that I buy some general purpose stuff and mix it with home composted from a guy with a big garden I had the cheek to ask and he dropped it off.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Morrisons have been selling off gardening stuff for several weeks. I never saw any compost there and there's not much left but did pick up a couple of bottles of Rose Clear for £1. It was £8.50 in a garden centre yesterday.
