The Ministry of Justice has announced that the fee for obtaining copies of probate grants, wills or letters of administration in England and Wales will increase from £1.50 to £16 per copy on 17 November 2025.
Notice appeared in London Gazette, spotted 14/11/25.
Apologies if someone else has already reported this.

Honestly, in the age of everything online, the one copy provided with the £300 fee will probably suffice, as many organisations will accept a high quality, colour, scanned image.0

don't you believe it...I ordered four (just arrived) and three need to go out in the post for NS&I, NHS pensions and the solicitor. None of those will accept images. Now that they are so expensive, all this will need to be done serially and hope they don't vanish in the post.I would say don't get too many death certificates as no-one wants sight of those.1

What is their rationale for an increase of over 1000%? I can not imagine they are particularly costly to produce.0
