Local List: Anyone had a building/group of buildings successfully removed from a council local list?

Hi Everyone,
We've faced a lot of brick walls (no pun intended) with our local authority planning/conservation team over this. Our street was placed on the 'local list' 12 years ago - it's a nice street, late Victorian crescent. But none of the people living on the street were aware of the local list consultation, nor were informed that the two terraces were placed on the local list. It came up when a couple of us put in for planning permissions.
The terraces are not in a conservation area, but now any planning application goes through the conservation team, which means any building improvements are almost impossible.
The local list is finally up for review next year and much of the terrace are in favour of getting it taken off the local list. A lot of the buildings (many council-owned freehold) have fallen into a terrible state. I feel like we need to build a strong argument for getting our street off the local list. Can anyone help?

Its a bit of a niche thing, so you probably won't have many people on the forum with experience of this.

Have you approached your ward councillors?

  • Super niche! I will approach the councillors. I'm sure they have much bigger fish to fry (fixing the houses on the street being one big fish!) but I will definitely give them a try.
