Hello all, can I open a joint account without switching just transferring direct debits and still benefit for any cash back offers or do you have to close existing accounts to benefit. Thanks

The CASS switch closes the old account and is a pre-req for all switch offers I have seen over the years.Your bank might offer a non-CASS option and just transfer DDs for you but this doesn't come with any guarantees or offer payments and frankly, you can move your DDs faster yourself. Most DD instructions can be changed online, on the retailer/provider website. All you need is give them your new sort code and account number. Best time to make the change is just after a payment has been made.As an aside, are you aware of the commitments you are making when using a joint account?

Depends on the T's and C's of the specific accountStatement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.1

I would never have a joint account ever again. Just have your own single account that you use to pay the bills.
Once you open a joint account you are financially linked to that person for no real benefit. My (ex-) wife once told me that she knew I was serious about her after being married for 16 years and together for 2 years when I agreed to open a joint account with her. She was right, I hesitated far more about that then the decision to get married.1 -
Standard recommendation on here for those who wish to benefit from switching incentives, without closing their existing accounts, is to open a secondary dummy account and switch that, after ensuring that it's set up with whatever prerequisites are specified by the terms of the offer.EddAverill said:Hello all, can I open a joint account without switching just transferring direct debits and still benefit for any cash back offers or do you have to close existing accounts to benefit. There are occasional offers that do not require switching, but they don't tend to be so good. Santander recently had an offer to get a £100 amazon voucher for opening a new account, for instance.1
