Instead of trying to beat people into submission, with your technical explanations.
Make it relevant for the end user. Make it easier for them to understand why they should not use passwords longer than the website is designed to handle.

The only problem is that you are spreading disinformation about password strength. People that aren't setting these huge passwords shouldn't feel that they are any way less secure.
