Are you entitled to ESA if you have savings over £16k and unable to work?

I think so, but the following need to apply:
- worked as an employee or have been self-employed
- paid enough National Insurance contributions, usually in the last 2 to 3 years - National Insurance credits also count
Otherwise it’s UC, which you would not get with savings over 16k.Credit card 1700
Overdraft 210
2026 EF 100/3000
All I want is a weather forecast saying there'll be more weather.1 -
If you've paid enough recent NI contributions you could be entitled to New Style ESA (not means tested). Have you been working recently?"Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

Yes up until 6 months ago. I’ve paid my NI contributions.0

Yes it seems like you should be elegible. You could also get New Style JSA but would have to seek work.Credit card 1700

It's NI contributions made in the tax years 22/23 and 23/24 that are relevant: if you paid enough NI conts in those two tax years then you will get conts JSA.2

ESA, for the OP. (I know it was a typo, easily done, just clarifying for the OP.)Robbie64 said:It's NI contributions made in the tax years 22/23 and 23/24 that are relevant: if you paid enough NI conts in those two tax years then you will get conts JSA.1 -
I'd actually typed ESA and changed it to JSA before submitting my reply!Spoonie_Turtle said:
