Are you entitled to ESA if you have savings over £16k and unable to work?

    I think so, but the following need to apply:

    • worked as an employee or have been self-employed
    • paid enough National Insurance contributions, usually in the last 2 to 3 years - National Insurance credits also count
    Otherwise it’s UC, which you would not get with savings over 16k.

    If you've paid enough recent NI contributions you could be entitled to New Style ESA (not means tested). Have you been working recently?
