Good morning everyone and thanks @Ruby for starting us off. It's another wet day outside, still mild but so dismal. Looking ahead - if the forecast is correct - by Friday we'll be down to single figures and there's even a mention of sleet for next Wednesday.
The electrical inspection contractor arrived yesterday, about half an hour earlier than expected but that was OK, and an hour later pronounced everything was in good order, so all done and dusted for another 5 years. While he was here I went through emails and deleted a fair few. One was to confirm my ISA transfer over the weekend but I will need to cancel the existing standing order and set up a new one so I've added that to Friday's admin list. I also had a text from the pharmacy saying my meds are ready for collection - impressed as I'd only sent my new prescription request to the surgery on Friday. I booked a grocery delivery for tomorrow too, a mix of store cupboard needs, some fresh stuff for the fridge and a couple of Xmas bits for the freezer. In the evening there was nothing I particularly wanted to watch on TV so I finished the tricky jigsaw instead.
Today's jobs: a tidy up of the fridge and freezer contents, bake a loaf of bread and a darks wash. To be dried indoors, of course. Tea tonight is a lemon & herb dusted fish fillet with the last of a bag of mixed veg from the freezer. No idea for afters but I'm sure I'll find something.
@Ruby - That's a very thoughtful birthday gift for Matt's mum. Fingers crossed it will be all steam ahead for the WM repair.
@SO - I think there's a few of us on here not in touch with adult offspring (in my case it's DD) but, as Gers says, it's their loss. I'll be on my own too - maybe we singletons should raise a virtual glass to each other on The Day.
@mehefin - You have my sympathies - whoever invented artex and woodchip wallpaper needs shooting!
@AA - Give yourself a pat on the back for getting the POAs done.
Right, time to crack on - my coffee's gone cold anyway - so I'll wish everyone a good day. Thoughts as always with the poorly ones and those struggling with life in general. Take care, stay safe. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.10 -
Hi everyone,
Mehefin, you have my sympathy, when we moved in the house was all woodchip and artex. The artex has mostly been plastered over now, 70's artex can contain asbestos so better not to try to remove it. The woodchip has gone, many years ago we had a leak from our water tank (we were away for Steve's dad's funeral so it was able to run unchecked) and had to have a lot of decorating done, an old block with a scraper came and removed the woodchip from the hall, stairs and landing in half a day, he was breathtaking to watch.
I spent some of yesterday sorting the freezer in the kitchen so that is ready for Christmas. I need to do the one in the utility room but that can wait till the family has gone next week. I also made a bean and mushroom curry for dinner, yummy.
We're expecting our new settee this morning, we were going to refresh our tired living room over three years ago but put it off till the family left, now it's been repainted, refloored in wood and the finishing touch arrives today. Steve's also repainting the hall stairs and landing which he's nearly finished. I'm very lucky that he can turn his hand to anything. Sometimes I worry it's too much and suggest we get someone in but he always refuses.
Have a good day.

Late one from me as I had an appt in town early doors and we’ve been mowing/raking up yet more leaves. Think that’s almost it now. Another tip run tomorrow.DH is moving better now although I took on the huge petrol mower myself - it’s self-propelling but being only 5’2” it nearly took me with it!!That’s a lovely idea for Matt’s mum @RedRuby1231 I’m sure she’ll love it x
I sympathise with the artex ceilings @mehefin - we are slowing having ours plastered as we do each room. The blue sounds lovely x
Hugs to you @silver-oldie I hope your DGS gets in touch x
Have a good day all (what’s left of it)
