Failed Credit Check - No Reason and no where to find out

Trading Standards is a bit extreme?Albiecatlover said:I am concerned about the fail so have spoken to CAB/ Trading Standards
For reference, there are three independent credit reference agencies: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. You can check your report for free using the Experian, Credit Karma and ClearScore apps respectively.
Credit companies can opt to report or check with all or any of the three. Having no issues on Experian doesn't automatically mean there are no issues on the other two. I have accounts on one that don't show on the others.
Check all 3 and report back.
It could also be you don't meet their lending criteria or affordability. I can be unemployed and have a 999 score on Experian (which means nothing by the way, but that's a story for another day) but that doesn't mean I'm qualified to get a loan for a million pounds.

Unless Experian are going to provide you with phones that 'score' is meaningless.Albiecatlover said:Experian shows us both as score 999 (the highest) and 'Excellent' rating.
Neither the CAB or Trading Standards can help with the fair that you have failed a credit check. The advice to check Wirth Experian may prove useful - however, it is the data on your report that is relevant - not the fictitious score.Albiecatlover said:I am concerned about the fail so have spoken to CAB/ Trading Standards but they say that other than the Experian check there is no way of finding out why. As it is my data, this seems ludicrous and I am worried that it is going to happen again.0 -

MSE also have a credit club which is free to join and you can use it to view your credit file. It's in the Cards and Loans section of the site (this isn't a plug or a referral by the way - I use it and am just sharing in case you weren't aware). As others have pointed out, you could have a perfect score and still get declined by a company - its down to the company's own internal scoring which they are not obligated to share with customers.
The main thing is not to solely focus on the score of a credit report, but use it as a tool to monitor your credit information - no erroneous default or CCJs, no incorrect debts or missed payments, address history is correct, registered on electoral roll, no multiple hard searches done in a short space of time (e.g., a few days) etc.
Apart from that, all I could suggest is accepting the company doesn't want your custom on this occasion, and ultimately they've opted to lose a customer. So don't give them a second thought and move on to a company that is willing to accept your custom.Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. It's obviously all a bit of a pain but have you priced up buying outright and buying a monthly package? This works well for me, and I cost on a two year basis, so gain if I keep the phone longer and lose a bit if the phone gets dropped down the loo or run over by my bicycle.. ahem. £6 a month gets me all the data and calls I need and my budget line is just £20.Seeing the upfront costs in this way means I'm not tempted to get the latest phone model, which I don't actually need anyway.I appreciate this may not be what you want but it's always worth considering.1
