I have spoken to Chards and they sound very helpful. I think I'll go for Royal Mail Special Delivery and as proof of ownership take photos of me holding the gold sovereign in the event it goes astray.

I would like to sell my 1911 gold sovereign valued online at £700. If I use Royal Mail do I need proof of its value? Do I need to have a certificate showing its value? I'm just thinking as in the news lately Royal Mail lost a valuable gold bar and now is prevaricating over compensation.
I have a jeweller fairly local to me who are currently paying (as of now!) £724 for gold sovereigns.
They offer excellent prices for gold/silver etc.

I'd try to find something similar to you.

Because the price of sovereigns is linked to the price of gold it can change daily, especially if the Orange one is stirring things up.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

    I know that.
    I check it regularly.

Don't sell gold or silver through Royal Mail. Use a premium courier like DHL.
Would DHL insure precious metals though?  I would use RM Special Delivery as already mentioned.

Unless they changed it recently, they should.

RM are the last i'd recommend using, they managed to lose a high value watch of mine.
The whole episode is too lengthy to type out but the modern RM are not what they used to be.

My local scrap metal dealer buys all precious metals.
They give excellent prices as well.
