Can this make my boiler use more energy?

My HA fixed an issue with my Boiler a while back, something called a Diverter, since then the amount of Gas used (with heating off) has increased from 8m3 to 12m3.  I am concerned that in Winter this might double cost when I have the heating on.

Is there any way changing this part or bad repair accounts for the increased use of Gas?

Even with heating off my hall radiator starts to get hot when I shower despite the heating being off, so seems they did not even fix the diverter issue.

Increased over what period - day, week, month, year?
4 cubic metres is about 50 kWh, which will cost £3.

I'm assuming you have a combi boiler? If so, yes that sounds like a faulty diverter. However all that's hapening is that you're heating your house whe you don't intend to.

Unlikely. Any heat that goes into your house through a faulty diverter will offset heat that you would otherwise have paid for, so it's a zero-sum situation.

    Sorry, over a month.

For me it is double the cost but usage relatively low because of other measures I take (tips seen on this site).

Yes a Combi, I hear you but my concern is that the efficiency is somehow distorted since the repair and that might scale up.  I am not even clear that the issue was the Diverter, two engineers examined it, one who did the annual safety and one they sent to diagnose. One said it might be a heat plate or heat exchange - not sure about the terminology, all I know about Gas boilers is that we are not allowed to touch anything other than user settings. It has separate temp setting for Radiator and Hot Water if that helps.

Some boilers will, even with the heating off, push excess hot water like in your case from a shower (if shower is fed from boiler) into a radiator.
    How do I know?
Mine was doing it, fitted a new diverter valve then found out it's designed to do it 🙄😢
