The shops wont care what its on. But surprised you needed to produce it to buy a drink, I was in Paphos airport in August and didnt have to do this (the bar outside)J_B said:Just back from Cyprus - PFO to MANWe used our paper boarding passes to ...Open gate to securityBuy drink from the shopGet from departure lounge to boarding gate (but " we only allow paper till the end of this month" she said)At the top of the plane steps as we were first on!0 -
Presumably 'buy drink from the shop' implied an airside duty-free shop, where the request to show a boarding pass is the norm?la531983 said:

Maybe, but he would have said duty free if that was the case surely. Anyway we await clarity.eskbanker said:

....and likewise would have said 'bar' if that's where the drink was bought!la531983 said:

Many/most of such requests are merely to give them marketing data, and go away if you tell them your boarding card is with another member of your party…0

I think it depends on circumstances - when buying alcohol from a duty-free shop within the EU (e.g. Cyprus!) then there may be differential destination-specific pricing, i.e. whether the goods are staying within the EU or going outside, so sometimes boarding passes are needed to support that?user1977 said:Many/most of such requests are merely to give them marketing data, and go away if you tell them your boarding card is with another member of your party…0 -
Interesting that you've posted this as I was going to ask on this thread:J_B said:Just back from Cyprus - PFO to MANWe used our paper boarding passes to ...Open gate to securityBuy drink from the shopGet from departure lounge to boarding gate (but " we only allow paper till the end of this month" she said)At the top of the plane steps as we were first on!
What happens if you've proceeded all the way to the boarding gate with a home-printed boarding pass? Nothing is going to stop you getting that far unless the gates only accept the in app/airport printed QR code from some point.
Is the suggestion that from 1st December, anyone with a home printed boarding pass will be denied boarding?
Thought I'd see how prominent the warnings on the Ryanair site are but the site is currently down.
Edit: appears from looking on Twitter/X that the website and app have been down for an hour or more. Fun times at Ryanair check-in desks.0 -
I could get to the boarding gate with a damaged or invalid passport, and I'd be denied boarding.TheShape said:

Like everything else with Ryanair or any other airline, comply with the terms you've agreed to.0 -

Mrs B went to the 'food zone' to buy us a baguette - no pass requiredI went to the 'newsagent' type shop (*) and it asked for my pass, or to enter my flight number* saddo that I am, I noted that the price for drinks [a bottle of Coke (€4.30!) ] is always less at the shop than the food zone.
