Vibrations in loft
Etwin
We had a second storey put onto our house and moved to sleep in the new loft. However we can feel all the vibrations from people walking underneath on the first floor and closing doors etc. There’s already a space between the 2 floors with a gap between the first floor ceiling and loft floor, so we’re really confused why this is happening. There’s carpets on both floors.
This doesn’t happen between the first and ground floor.
Any advice (that isn’t too costly) would be appreciated. Thanks

So, it was a bungalow and now it's a two-storey house with a loft?Is it a loft built or converted correctly to be a living space?0

Was it a converted roof space? or an actual new storey added to the house?0

Depending on the age of the house, the ground floor may be solid concrete. Or the floorboards may be firmly mounted on brick. The first floor floor will be held up by the internal walls, some of which could only be timber frame partition walls. the same partition walls will also be holding up the loft floor. So the whole lot could be bouncing up and down as people move below. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
