But is 50K enough? If you have that much available for renovations, a few hundred quid more for a better survey seems a wise option. At the very least, it allows you to prioritize ongoing maintenance.DevilDamo said:

Good luck, enjoy your renovation, the house will have been very well built but I do hope you have a good salvage yard in the vicinity. My husband had just died and I had a problem with the heating under the floor in my daughter's bedroom - the plumber broke the floorboard yanking it up.
I went to our local DIY wood place and he said I wouldn't be able to get that size any more. Luckily managed to join the broken pieces together with something, not sure what they were called. Phew!
