Anyone know how much 100kb of internet is?

I just read on my mobile phone statement i have 100kb of free internet as part of my contract apparently!. What i want to know is how much is 100kb? I have no clue and i don't want to go over 100kb as really couldn't afford the extra charges.

I'd love to be able to check my emails on it :j . Would i be able to do this?

no idea on a mobile phone, but a normal email is about 2k/20k.
without any attachments!

It's not a lot... not exactly sure, but I think I get 300kB free and sometimes go over that. The only thing I use it for is checking train times once a week or so.

ask your provider what happens if you go over the 100kb and whether a block can be put on it so you can't a) download more b) cost you

As rule of thumb a web page can be 100 k, especially with photo's.

It's really not worth using.

I just checked I opened http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com and the last figure I saw on the screen before finishing loading the page includeing images was 186k

so 100k isnt a lot.

100kb is nothing at all. Do not be temped to use it!

1 bit = an eighth of a character
8 bits= 1 character
(The line above is worth 20x8 bits inc. spaces and carriage return)

100Kbits than equals 100,000/8

This equals 12,500 characters

An average of 8 charaters per word = 1562 words

That would be per month then?

ive read 3 stories recently of peeps getting humongous bills for internet mobile phones.
a chap in canada with a 90k dollar bill!
a lady in the uk with a 3k bill.
and a peep in the uk again with a 27k bill!

as been said, a waste of time.

So you could almost look at this thread once in a month but would exceed your limit.

Typical rip-off mobile charges, they temp people with a 'free' offer than bill them £2.50 per Mb and upwards when then exceed 100kb (which is about 4 web pages).
