4 / 5 Years on - WasYour Premium Mattress Worth It?

I've seen, some of these new fangled mattresses are reaching very high prices - £1200 for the Simba Hybrid Pro for example (bet you can't get it reduced if you didn't want the £600 worth of "free" gifts).

But for those that bought a £700 > mattress a few years back - was it really worth the price?
What did you get and why did you chose that brand?

"But for those that bought a £700 "

Not sure these days a £800 mattress is a premium mattress ?

Any Mattress slept on every night is probably showing starting to struggle after 5 years.
  • We are about 4 years into a Tempur mattress and it’s just as comfortable as it was at the start (actually better because I hated it for the first few day!!). When this one does need replacing we’ll get another Tempur - hopefully not for a number of years yet though!
  • I’ve had a vispring mattress and base for 7 years - best investment we’ve ever made. £6k and that was on the cheaper end of the prices

Our Harrison Spinks mattress cost £1K 10 years ago and is still in perfect condition.

A decent topper helps - we have a Baa-vet topper and duvet, both highly recommended.  But I suspect that the life-span of any mattress is linked to the size of the people who use it.  (We are both on the shorter/smaller/lighter side).

Our double Silentnight mattress was £215 in 2018. Still entirely seviceable today.
The one it replaced was probably 20 years old.
We might want more comfort in our 50s than we did in our 20s, but on the other hand we now don't stress test it quite as often

I've always had Ikea firm mattresses and find you get a good 10 years use before they need replacing. We have a superking size bed which takes 2 single mattresses, so can replace either side individually as required....OH has dementia and sleeps up to 18 hours a day!

Can't remember how much I spent. Somewhere around the £500 mark in 2015 I think. No idea the brand & at this time in the morning I'm not turfing the wife off to check it.

But put it this way, if I sleep on any mattress that isn't MY mattress then I have a bad sleep as they don't come close to comfort.

I am the opposite. When I stay in hotels, or holiday accommodation, somebody else's house  etc. I never give the mattress a second thought. Maybe the few glasses of wine help  :)
However I am fussy about the pillows !
