Is the old bulb mains voltage, they are often 12v.0

Is this the only light in the bathroom ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

They're run off the mains, 240v with a switch outside the bathroom. There are two others that are working.0

The metal ring is probably only a push fit. Use a blunt instrument to prise it off and you will be able to access the bulb.0

If you place the "new" bulb in one of the fittings you know is working, that should help you work out if it is the bulb or other fitting that is at fault.Asimovs_nightfall said:They're run off the mains, 240v with a switch outside the bathroom. You may need to pull the whole light fitting down to inspect the wiring above. Turn off the power to that lighting circuit first. If the fittings have previously held halogen lamps, the wiring could be cooked. Or the wires may have worked loose. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
