Anybody have any experience of the above please? I am able to re-apply for my driving licence after it was suspended due to an illness which is now under control.

I would like to expedite the process as much as I can (I realise that dealing with the DVLA is probably not going to be a speedy process)

I understand that this can be completed online, could anybody confirm the process to me please? forms to fill in & expected time scale etc.

Thanks

The reapplication processes are fully documented on gov.uk, but they are different depending on whether your licence was voluntarily surrendered or revoked/refused for medical reasons.
  • It takes ages.

It will I am afraid take several weeks.  I submitted a report written by a driving instructor that I was fit and able to drive.  Each case has to be reviewed by the medical panel, so basically you are in a long queue.  I rang every week for nine weeks before it was eventually reviewed and my licence issued.

    Kind Regards,

    Bill
  • I would say months in my experience , sorry. You fill the form out, they write to your GP, then they make their decision.

I helped a friend a few years ago with getting his license back. Luckily after some pushing (pretty much forced him) he surrendered his license voluntarily, when his condition was sorted a month later he could drive straight away under Section 88 and got his actual license two weeks later. If he had not voluntarily surrendered then he would have lost it as the doctors were required to report it, which means no Section 88 and months of waiting.

So they key is did you surrender your license or was it taken away?
