Adding spouse to property deeds

I'm intending adding my spouse to the deeds for our property so that we can both make use of the IHT allowance. This is our only residence it's currently in just my name and there is no mortgage. Is this something we can do with the Land Registry (we are fairly good with completing forms), or should we instruct a solicitor?

I am pretty sure you don’t need a solicitor to do this.It actually does not make any difference to IHT if you are leaving the hose to your wife, but there are other reasons to do this including not requiring probate to transfer the house to a surviving spouse.

I think you will need to decide whether to be Tenants in Common ( where you own a % each, often 50% but not always) or as Joint Tenants, where you own it jointly.
There are various pros and cons ( just google it) .1 -
Thanks for the replies, the IHT is more important when our property is left to the children, we will each have an allowance for the house. We have wills and POA for both of us.
Has anybody gone through a similar process with the Land Registry, it looks like there are a couple of forms to complete and proof of identity?0
