Shower hose filter

It's probably obvious but what's the purpose of this white part that's in the end of my mixer shower hose, is it a filter or flow restrictor? At the moment the hose isn't sealing very well and water is coming out of that end of the hose that's at the shower end and I'd like to either replace it or remove it altogether.

  • Restrictor, supposed to save water, reassemble without and see if that helps.

I've tried a few of those water saving devices and all they've even done is send water to places I don't want it, which seems wasteful of water.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
