Amazon/ASDA breaches privacy on returns

On a recent trip to ASDA to return n Amazon item, it came as a shock to me that Amazon fully reveal to the staff what is in the package even if it may be fully sealed. Generally, this is not likely to be an issue for most, however, in my case it was a little embarrassing as I was returning french maid's outfit bought for a haloween party. Why embarrassing? because when she scanned the QR code a full colour image of the original Amazon listing was shown on the scanner, included a full picture of the costume. Not only are the staff able to see it, so to are others standing close in eth queue

What if it had been a very personal or intimate item or something for couples.....

It never used to be a problem when you were able to print a label at home, but since Amazon stopped this method and started using ASDA as a main drop off point I no longer feel my privacy is as safe as it should be.

And let's not forget embarrassment may not only be to the customer, it was a young teenager that scanned the item, so think how she would have felt if it was something more personal!!

Could it be a security check to ensure that the correct item is being returned?

Other options, send back via post.

Do you really think that anyone around or staff are bothered?

Although quite what a French Maid outfit has to do with haloween 🤷‍♀️🤣

I agree with born_again - it is a very low key way of ensuring the right sort of thing is returned. It wouldn't work for items of a similar size, but it would stop obvious fraud like stating you've sent a bike back, when the package is less than 6 inches square.

I really can't see an issue, if it was a more intimate item, then a) why is it being sent back- the mind boggles, and B0 if it's the wrong item that was sent then it won't matter for the image shows.

I really suspect the staff have more to do than peruse and comment on items being returned.

Times have very much changed in respective Halloween costumes. Inflateable sharks were popular round my area this year.

You can complain to Amazon at

    eu-privacy@amazon.co.uk

    as per their privacy policy:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201909010&ref_=footer_privacy

Not sure about the staff but I think the other customers in the store shouldn't be able to see what you are returning.

With some of my Amazon returns via the Post office it specifically states " no box required"  and tells you not to pack the item.  I had nothing sensitive, but I did think that it might have been embarrassing if it was an item of a personal nature.

My Asda doesnt care if you have sealed the package up and i have no experience of other customers seeing the picture, its facing the worker so how would customers see it?!

I think if I were to wear a French Maid outfit, you might find that to be rather scary.

I wonder how many Halloween outfits are being returned to Amazon this week?
