Reclaiming credit owed from rebel energy / british gas

Rebel energy sent me a letter on 31st July 2025 showing a credit on my account of £1216.69 informing me British Gas would be in touch with me to credit me the money. 4 months have gone by and I've not had the money from British Gas despite several emails and phone calls. British Gas say they haven't received the money from the creditors yet and he creditors are not responding. Will I get my money back and when will this be? Can someone help as I really need this money coming upto christmas :(

In this case, I'd email your MP to see if they can chase it up.

Seems to be a common issue though, not sure how to chase it but seems to be a lot of people still waiting from July.

My understanding of the SOLR process is that BG shouldn't be waiting for the money from anyone. If the final meter reading is agreed, and hence the credit,. then BG should show it as a credit on the first new bill, claiming the money via OFGEM - did you stay with BG or move elsewhere ? Moving supplier before the SOLR process completes, has caused issues in the past!

Generally true, but I'm not sure if this 'letter showing a credit..' was actually a final bill, and I expect that is what BG are waiting to see.

This is exactly why people shouldn't ever have huge credit on their account. I was SoLRd to BG in 2021 and when they eventually set up my new account they asked for an opening read which I gave. They never did ask for any payment for electricity used between the supplier going bust and them opening the account which was several weeks. I suspect they may do similar with credits and they get forgotten too. All you can do is raise a formal complaint and good luck with that. Their complaints handlers are hopeless.
