The deeds could be in deep archive storage,
If you know the mortgage company / Building society at the time it was paid off and have a reference number, it might be as simple as asking them. If it’s one of the many who were bought out then find out who owns it now.
In my Dad’s case, Barclays had bought out the old BS and had archived the deeds. It took a while to find out the info but if we hadn’t had old statements with the original reference number, the Deeds would never have been found. They weren’t stored by Name.

mum was a very lucky lady in a way that dad looked after her and managed everything but now it’s caused this issue. Lloyds were the last mortgage provider ive spoken to them again today and provided DC.
