Toob installation- bodged. Can I claim compensation?

Toob recently installed internet at my house.
The installation guy/ idiot, cut my aerial cable outside and again inside. The inside cable was fed under my hearth tiles to conceal the cable but he cut it so close to the tiles it couldn't be reinstated.

I had to get an aerial specialist to reinstate the cable but he had to run the new cable around my hearth tiles and it looks dreadful.

Toob have paid me for cost to get the cable fitted, however I am trying to claim for compensation for the way they have left things, so that I can get the work done to fix their cowboy attitude.

Has anyone got any advise or know how on this? I don't think I'm in the wrong to get compensation...
Thanks

It'll generally be more productive to seek 'reimbursement' rather than 'compensation', as they're often used to mean different things, so if you're looking to have your costs covered in having another go at refitting the cable then you'd need to present those costs to them and probably explain why you didn't get your preferred cable specialist to do the job properly first time round (as they're likely to see it as two bites of the cherry).

In terms of actual consumer rights, you'll effectively be relying on section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act:

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/49

and then the subsequent part about remedies:

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/part/1/chapter/4/crossheading/what-remedies-are-there-if-statutory-rights-under-a-services-contract-are-not-met
  • I think it would be the case that had you gone to the trouble of having the cable installed back to how it was before they’d have to cover that cost if there was a breach of contract (such as due care and skill).

I can see why you wouldn’t want to rip everything out just to run a cable but other than squeezing some good will out of them (happy to be corrected but) I don’t think there is a legal right to be compensated at this stage for your displeasure of how it now looks.

In terms of doing it again I don’t see the company should pay twice, so at best cost of doing it again minus what they already paid.

Photos would help, but you can obtain conduit in various profiles and finishes, including ready-to-paint finishes.  There may be a way to run the cable more attractively around the hearth.  Have a look, get an estimate of price and ask the company if they'll pay for it.  I shouldn't think it would be too expensive.
