I sent my complaint back in July 2024 when Toyota advised, "we did pay a discretionary commission to the dealer".

They have recently come back saying they will be in contact again in December and said, "We can tell you that (a) we paid a commission to the dealer for your introduction and (b) this commission was not a discretionary commission (meaning the dealer couldn't influence the rate of interest where this would affect the amount of commission they received)."

Does anyone have any ideas what this means?

It means they did pay some commission to dealer but it was not a discretionary commission.

Under some contracts the dealer could increase the interest rate so that they received more commission.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

But the first email says it was, that's where I'm confused.

    It means any one of:
    • They made a mistake the first time.
    • They don't know what they are doing.
    • They are lying to you.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
