Home Responsibilities Protection not heard / no response

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a delay on the Home responsibilities protection process?

We have applied it has been 4 months. I am not sure we can open an online login as may not have the identity documents but will try.

Is there a way to open without the documents they state?

Is the only other way to find out by contacting HMRC?

Thank you.

Is there a delay, yes.  They are currently dealing with things from the beginning of the year so 4 months is nowhere near there yet.  You cannot get into your on line tax account / government gateway without driving licence or passport ID.
  • There is clearly a delay beyond the time they are supposed to respond - why am I not surprised. If you follow the links, you can find out the time by which “You should have received a reply by [...] “, in my case it was the 2 November 2025. So they are already later than they estimated (and that estimate has not changed).

To login, you need to register and get a User ID. This enables you to look at all your HMRC information, so worth the time.

    thank you both
  • I helped my mum who is 83 apply back in July, it states on her Government gateway account that she should have had a reply by 6 Nov, then sends you to a generic page if you have not received a reply by then.  But its not clear who to contact.  It doesn't give a number for Home Responsibilities Protection.  I'm concerned due to her age how long this will take.  When we applied it said 15 days, its now been nearly 4 months.  Is there nothing that can be done to speed this up.

Apparently DWP have said it will take until 2027 to settle all claims.

Loans have to be dealt with manually and then referred to HMRC to check if any tax is due on the payments.
  • Delay? Oh yes..delays are endemic.
It took HMRC a few weeks to confirm that my wife was entitled. The arrears were paid by DWP just over two years later. They didint pay any interest for this delay so she has complained. Six months since that letter and nothing heard yet.
Good luck with your claim. Make sure to have 'signed for' delivery on any letters you send to DWP

Waste of money as DWP (or any large business that gets a lot of mail) do not sign for letters, they are bulk signed at sorting office by RM, not per letter or postie & a staff member would be at it all day.
Just get proof of postage from post office is good enough.
Making sure you keep a copy, in case it gets lost.
