Interim charge order nightmare

I am in the process of buying a house from a couple who are apparently splitting up. The house is empty and thus vacant possession. I am a first time buyer and have mortgage offer and money aside for deposit. We are now in week 17 of conveyancing.  Solicitor decided to wait until week 10 to find out there was an interim charge order on the property in respect of a debt of £15,000 owed by the ex husband. He has apparently been uncooperative and so the wife has agreed to pay the debt from her proceeds of the sale.
Question: If the debt is paid and paperwork obtained I still have to wait for the order to be removed from the title register before I can move in?
I purposely bought the house because it was vacant possession and thought the process would be straightforward but its becoming a nightmare. Apparently it can take up to 2 months for the order to be removed from the register. Conveyancing process started on 18th july !
