Hi going to price it all up on line tomorrow but just wondering if experienced forum users know of a ‘best’ way to insure a 17yr old leaner on mum and dads car

we have a 7 year old Yaris on which im main driver and mrs is named, we have 10+ years no claims no points etc so our fully comp premium is 200 a year. It’s coming up for renewal this month

son is 17 and learning and wondering what’s best way to get him insured in general eg add him to our policy as named driver , or get him his own policy or go for a monthly PAYG learner only insurance

then what when he passes (test booked jan) - if he’s on our policy are we stuck with whatever premium increase they add when we passes?

gut says getting him his own monthly learner insurance is best in short term indicative quotes are 30-40 per month and then review full insurance once he passes

appreciate any guidance based on others experiences

thanks

I got specific learners insurance, from Marmalade, so that any bumps wouldn't have any effect on my own insurance.

My own recent-ish experience was that by far the cheapest way was to add as a named driver on my policy.

I can't recall exactly what the cost was - certainly nowhere near 40 quid/month

I understand that to add a learner drive to your policy is not too exorbitant as the insurance company know that the learner is always accompanied, however prices increase dramatically once the learner passes their test,
