Samsung TV given up the Ghost

We purchased a Samsung TV just under 4 years ago @ a cost of £1100 from Currys, unfortunately the TV has gone wrong and is out of warranty with both Curry's and Samsung. Is there anything we can do as I would expect a TV to last more than 4 years? Can I do anything under the CRA?

If you can show (usually by an expert inspection / report) that the failure was due to a manufacturing defect and not misuse etc, then the seller (not Samsung) may be liable to make a pro rata refund based on what is left of the normal expected life (which is generally six years).

So you may get about one third of the original price plus a refund on the cost of getting the report.
  • Above is correct OP but in addition, after the inspection, if the TV can be fixed for a reasonable fee (less than it’s value after use) you alternatively can claim the cost of repair (as general damages) if Currys refuse a repair but you’re prefer one over a part refund.

    ^^ As above

Just to add, "given up the Ghost" could potentially be a trivial fault with component costing petty cash (plus labour of course) or a major screen failure beyond economic repair!

What exactly has happened?  Our Samsung goes silent on occasion and the only way to get sound back it to disconnect it from the mains supply.  Simply switching off and one doesn't fix it.
