Can anyone recommend a QUIET dehumidifier?

Options
We are having a lot of trouble with condensation this winter with black mould growing on walls and around windows.

We would like to get a dehumidifier to help with the problem but we ideally want something quiet as the condensation is worst in the living room (but is also appearing in some of the bedrooms) so its something we are going to have to live with:o .

Have been looking at the Ebac 2650e but would welcome any suggestions/recommendations as we really haven't got a clue.

the thing you have to bear in mind with a dehumidifier is that it is treating a symptom of the condensation problem you have,
It is trying to rectify the problem after it's occurred. Condensation in a house is ultimately down to a lack of effective ventilation.
Dehumidifiers are expensive to run as well!
It may be worth thinking of a Positive Input Ventilation system. The ones I have had experience of are the Nuaire Drimaster range.
Stick 'Drimaster' in google and do some research,
    hope this helps

    Bump bump

Looked into a PIV system but we just couldn't afford it at the moment, though it's something we'll definitely get at some point in the future.

That means though that we still have to deal with the condensation.

We are getting cavity wall insulation installed in the next couple of weeks and an extra long radiator installed on the problem wall in the living room but we still need to remove the humidity in the house.

We want to get a dehumidifier but it needs to be a QUIET one powerful enough for a 3bed house - can anyone recommend? Money is an issue at the moment so I don't want to make a mistake and buy something loud that we'll be stuck with.

we have an ebac and there ok, it does it`s job. the 2650 is £160ish at argos and same at ebac, BUT the bigger more powerful 2850 is £180 direct from ebac (with 5 year warante) we have the 2800 in a 2 bed house, and never had any problems since with damp, ours is at the bottom of the stairs so it does the whole house (reason for bigger then we need) they are quiet on low fan speed, and noisy on fast as you`d expect, as for cost... 350watt, but once you get the damp under control it`s not on 24-7

    also from the ebac site...
The best way to see if a dehumidifier will improve your home is to try one.

That is why we offer all customers a 'No Quibble' 30-day money back guarantee.

Buy an Ebac dehumidifier and if for any reason you are not 100% satisfied, we will come and collect the unit. All monies paid will be refunded and no charges will be made for transportation.

Got mine from there too with £20 off.

Although this is only a small unit. You can't put it in one place and expect it to be able to control the humidity the the whole house. But it is small enough that you can move it to where you want it. It isn't that quiet except when on low mode. The clothes drying function is great though, who needs a tumble drier!! Must suck up 1-1.5 litres of water when drying clothes inside!!

I agree. Its so quick though that its no trouble to move it around if you need to. We live in a shoebox so don't have that problem!

And the clothes drying function is awesome....

I would recommend an ebac dehumidifer as we have one and it is excellent.
If you buy it direct you will get a five year warranty.
  • I'm not that familiar with dehumidifiers, but thought it may be useful to point out a couple of offers that appear in the Argos clearance booklet, Theres a 16 litre unit for £85.99 was £120.99 item number 4150107, and a 20 litre unit for£74.89 was £149.89 Item number 4150138, you will have to look online because there not in the new catalogue. Hope this helps.
