Solax Hybrid X1 Inverter - Charging from grid

I am an Octopus user and am combining the Outgoing Octopus (15p) tariff with Agile

In the (frequent) periods of negative or cheap electric I am manually switching to "Backup Mode" to force the battery to charge from the grid

However, this charge from the grid seems to be limited to 1kw. I know that my inverter can handle 5kw+ from my array. why is this limit there and how do I change it?

Longer term I am looking to a Home Assistant integration but that is only a plan....

Regards

Tet

    ChatGPT says:

If your grid charge rate is being limited to around 1 kW, even though the inverter and battery can technically handle much higher rates, there are several possible causes — let’s go through them in order of likelihood 👇

⚙️ 1. “Charge from Grid” limit in inverter settings

In the SolaX Cloud or local web interface, there’s a parameter under:

Battery → Advanced Settings → Grid Charge Power Limit

This setting often defaults to 1 kW or 10% of inverter power.
    Fix:

    • Log into the inverter (installer password often 1111 or 2222 depending on firmware).

    • Navigate to Battery → Advanced Settings → Charge From Grid Power.

    • Increase it to your battery’s safe charge power (e.g., 3 kW, 5 kW, etc.).

    • Make sure “Charge from Grid” is enabled and “Force Time Charge” has a valid schedule.

    ⚡ 2. Battery’s BMS limit

If you’re using a battery like Pylontech, Triple Power, or Solax-branded T58/T30, the BMS (battery management system) dictates max charge rate.
    Check in SolaX Cloud app:

    • Under Battery Info, see “Max Charge Power.”
If the BMS is reporting ~1 kW (≈ 4–5 A), the inverter will obey that.
      This could be caused by:

    • Battery not fully awake (low temperature, sleep mode).

    • BMS detecting cell imbalance or protection condition.

    • Communication fault (inverter reverts to safe 1 kW default).

🔋 3. Battery temperature or SOC limit

If the battery is near full (e.g., > 95 % SOC) or too cold/hot, the inverter automatically throttles grid charging — sometimes down to ~1 kW.

🧠 4. Firmware or mode behavior

Some firmware versions (especially 3.x for X1 Hybrid G4) only allow full grid charging during the forced charge window, not during “self-use” mode.
✅ Try setting a “Force Time Charge” period (for example 01:00–04:00) and enable “Charge from Grid.”

⚡ 5. Grid connection or DNO export limit

If your installer configured a DNO export limit (e.g., 3.68 kW) or “Zero Export” mode, the inverter may dynamically throttle all AC flow — including grid charging — to stay within export rules.
