Firm wants to ask Government to pay redundancy can I object?

Hello, not me but a friend is currently on "garden leave" having been made redundant. She has worked there for 8 years. Anyway about a month into it and her old boss has emailed saying they have applied to the government for this to be paid by the government directly. The firm is not in receivership (it might be headed that way of course). The firm say they are awaiting the outcome of the government's decision. Apparently this can take up to 6 weeks and my friend has bills to pay, children to feed and will be short of money for Christmas. Is there anything she can do or does she have to accept this?

if the company is in difficulty but not formally insolvent, they can still make the application.
I can’t see that she has any option but to wait. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
If she's on gardening leave she should be being paid. If she isn't then the rules around lay-offs apply & she can claim redundancy from her employer after a month
Has she been given notice of redundancy?0 -
I thought it was down the the employee to claim from the Redundancy Payments Service rather than the employers job?elsien said:if the company is in difficulty but not formally insolvent, they can still make the application.

She is being paid and the entire amount was due to be paid late November. That is what was agreed to. Now my friend has this email saying that the firm is going via the government. The firm has to wait to see if this is approved. If so they government will pay my friend and the firm will owe the government. If not then the firm will pay her but she will not be paid in late November. That is the issue - if she had lots of money she wouldn't mind the wait but she has bills, children and this it close to Christmas.Andy_L said:If she's on gardening leave she should be being paid.
