Broken machines NCP Prescot

We have received a PCN through the post today for not paying at an NCP car park in Prescot, Merseyside.
We tried to pay by cash and card but both machines were out of order.
No other cars in the car park were displaying parking tickets.
We don't use technology for paying for anything directly. So that wasn't an option for us.
What should we do please?
I'm loathe to pay £60 when it was our intention to pay on the day.
We talked to other people on the day who were having the same issue as us. Presumably they have received an PCN too!
I did take a couple of photos but I'm not technologically minded and can't upload them here.

Never reveal who the driver was.
Please post a redacted copy of the NtK (is this what you mean by PCN?) but leaving all dates.2 -
Many thanks 1505grandad. NtK was what I meant by PCN. Having lived in New Zealand for over 16 years, I'm still trying to get to grips with UK life! Rarely had to pay for parking outside of a city's CBD there.
We put in an appeal to NCP following your advice to not name the driver and using other templates on the forum. We included photos of the broken machines.
This morning we received an email cancelling the NtK parking fine. So we are feeling very relieved.
Thank you for your help, much appreciated.5 -
Brilliant well done!1
