Tenancy - leaving question

Hi,

I’m coming to the end of tenancy, month’s notice already given and acknowledged.

Now I’m looking to move out a bit early, the landlord is keen to get in and work on some bits that need freshening up etc. before re-letting.

My question is, if we mutually agree to hand back the property earlier than the end of the month, do they owe me money back for the full days?

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

You can ask, they can say yes or no.

If they say no then retain the property until your moving out date if you want.

Part of being a landlord is accepting that you have void periods between tenants. I had a landlord that wanted to do some work while I was still in - something he should have done a long time before - and he wanted me to have the inconvenience so he didn't have a void period. I said no.

Do you have somewhere to go if you leave early?

If it's mutual agreement, I would expect you to get some money back, but you don't know until you ask.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, I have somewhere to go so it’s mutually convenient. But seems unreasonable to me that I should pay for days where the landlord would have use of the property, so things exactly like you said, can be addressed when they should have been done a long time ago.

if it was by my choice and they wouldn’t have any use of it then that’s one thing but we all know they will make use of it because as you said, they’ll try to minimise that void period.
