I used the post office service in May last year and had my passport in 5 days.

A friend has just told me he posted his via the Post Office service last month & had it back in 4 days. Now I'm wondering if I should risk it....I might just put my faith in the system...!!! Then again....

    Risk it.

We just used the post office check and send, £7 I think, sent it on tuesday just after the bank hol and got it back the following tuesday.

It was my youngest daughters first passport at 16, something different now is that you have to send in a birth certificate(if born after1982, I think) with your parents details on it. I had to send for one from the registrars in York, cost £7, I asked them if they had been sending out many of these, she said they were overrun with sending out copies of birth cerificates due to the rule changes, just another one of Blairs back door taxes I think.

There is good news for oldies though. If you were born before 3rd September 1929 you are entitled to a standard 10 year passport absolutely free. This is mentioned in the small print in the application pack and they don't shout it from the rooftops.

Phew! I'm very relieved & happy to say that my brand new passport turned up today!! I used the Post Office service on Friday 24th June, so a pretty quick turnaround. I'm going on holiday - hurrah!
