Child Benefits and college course not starting until next year

My autistic son who is 17 dropped out of his college course due to his difficulties. In this situation all benefits such as CB and UC child element were stopped.
Luckily he gets PIP but that also meant his UC disabled child element was also stopped.
I'm hoping that my son might be able to do a special needs course at college but that course doesn't begin until next September.
He could enrol now but what happens regarding benefits in the meantime as I'm getting conflicting info on this at the moment.
Would any benefits only become payable when he starts the course next September or are they payable once he's enrolled on the course?
Thanks

See the section claiming if 16 or 17 year old, for your Son to claim Universal Credit in his own name

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
